Marlon Santi President of The CONAIE

By absolute decision of the first nation’s delegations of three regions of Ecuador (ECUARUNARI, CONAICE; CONFEINIAE) Marlon Santi has being elected as the new president of the CONAIE for the period of the next 3 years. This presidential election has not had any type of inconvenience at all, was a great example of unity of all Ecuadorian first nations people.

Governmental recognition of Ecuador as a multiple first nations country, has been the major request of the III First Nations National Congress.
 The III First Nations National Congress was officially opened by an ancestral ceremony with the participation of several leaders of the different organizations, governmental representatives, members of the national assembly, and national and international invited representatives.

Luis Macas, President of the CONAIE was thankful to all delegates and their participation in the congress, to whom he will be presenting a report of the collective work done by him and his council durant their governmental period, for them to be taken into their consideration and evaluation.
Macas while was talking about the congress said that minga (working together with a common purpose) of thoughts will be one that will allow to put together new proposals for the country, this country that continues being ours, of all Ecuadorian’s. Although some governments have made everything divide us. This congress is a great sample of practices of our unity and brotherhood”
The children and the women made presence in the inaugural act. Juana Nenquimo, member of The Waorani First nation speaking in 4 languages with scares all over her body as results of her nation’s permanent fights represented one of the most alive resistance and oppositions of to the invasion to their territory by the international oil, lumber and mining companies.
     The leader of the Regional Mountain range, Humberto Cholango, stood out that “This congress is of vital importance for CONAIE to respond with lifetime proposals against the poverty, the exclusion, mistreat and discriminations done by every Ecuadorian governments to us¨.
The Member of The National Assembly Mónica Chuji read a letter sent by the president of the National Assembly Alberto Acosta, where he mentions that “within the assembly  he will stand up and fight to obtain the recognition of the rights and community goals for all First Nations People”, and he had called for a unity to all native organizations.

Acosta’s letter makes emphasis also about the indigenous movements and its strength against, oligarchies and colonial powers are matter of great transcendental importance at the moments of social transformation that lives our country. The historical consciences, the cultural inheritance of the first nations are needed to build a new strong society guided by ancestral and natural laws.

The III National Congress of Ecuadorian First Nations and communities has started today with the participants registration of their delegations.

Before 7hs.  of this morning, delegates of three regions of our country: coast, saws and east, they initiated the process of inscription as delegates official, fraternal, observant  and special guests.

In spite of the constant rain the arrival has registered permanently. Up to the moment the number of new enrollees approximately belongs 800 persons.

Jaime Pilatuña of the Town Kitu Kara is the Yachak that takes forward the ancient ceremony of opening of the congress in of the brother Gobernador Tsa'chila Hector Awavil, likewise to this ceremony there add the yachak of all the towns (villages) and nationalities to support a space of harmony and to have a healthy elipse of the congress.

At this moment already there has the presence Jorge Waman, National Coordinator of the Ecuador, who will give his report of work to the plenary session of the assembly in hours of the evening, likewise as is invited special National Mónica Chuji Asambleísta.

This III Congress after analyzing the current conjuncture of the country, will choose the New advice(council) of government of the Federation of Nationalities and Towns-Villages of the Ecuador, CONAIE, for a period of 3 years

For the movement indigenous to the Ecuador, this congress represents the maximum expression of participation, beside being a space key to define the position and strategies opposite to the current government and to the international politics.
